Christmas Recipe Round Up

Christmas

A very merry Christmas to you all.

It’s been a pretty mixed year. But right now it’s just a few days until Christmas and we all know what that means, right? Food. More food than your body can handle. More cheese than you’d ever consider eating in a month, in the space of a few days. Everything covered in chocolate. Questionable amounts of alcohol consumption at questionable times of day.

I’ve decided that just a few days before the big day I’ll do a rundown of some of my favourite Christmas recipes from both my own blog and a few of my favourite other Food Bloggers, so check these out below and get your bake/cook on. Most of the ones from me are from previous years but you can check more recent ones here.

Underground Film Club; Die Hard

Underground Film Club

What makes Christmas for you? The gifts? Bad jumpers? Family? Well for me, it’s cheese. Cheese, and Die Hard. Die Hard, closely followed by the Muppet Christmas Carol (and in recent years, Arthur Christmas), is my favourite Christmas film. Argue all you want about how it’s “not very festive”, mate he covers that guy in fairy lights and everyone is constantly humming carols. It’s a Christmas tradition for me to get into my awful Die Hard Christmas sweater, watch the film and feel all fuzzy and festive inside. Underground Film Club (The winter incarnation of Rooftop Film Club), in partnership with LG, are running in the arches under Waterloo station.

What & Where I Ate: November 2015

What & Where I Ate Dec
November has ended and December has started, you know what that means right? It’s Chri… time for my November food round up! A quick look at everything I’ve cooked, baked and eaten (out). If you want to see previous entries for an insight into how much I eat out and generally what I cook then see here. I’ll be mixing up the order of these each month, and this time around I’m starting with what I ate. As ever this is generally a selection of the best, not everything I actually ate or baked.

The Wye Valley & Sweet Potato Pie

Tintern BridgeIt’s dark outside, and cold. I’ve not been getting enough fresh air at all. So a chance to get away for a weekend to the outdoors was just too good to pass up. We’d been looking around for somewhere to stay and needed something that was manageable from London in the time we had and we’d been looking at too many things on both Tumblr and Pinterest that meant we didn’t just want your standard “room” or “cottage”. Our criteria were along the lines of “cute”, “rustic” etc and we wanted a cabin in the woods. After trawling through various sites and a whole heap of “glamping” type places that offered accommodation that was alright, I guess, but next door to about 20 of the same thing with them all about 2 metres apart, we eventually found a “shepherds hut” at a little place in Wales. The hut in question was in the grounds of the Kingstone Brewery in Tintern, Wales. We were in luck, it was just a couple of hours drive away and the hut itself (especially at this time of year) was private. It had its own cabin next door with a lounge area, kitchen, bathroom etc and the hut itself had a bed.

What & Where I Ate: October – Vegetarian Special

October Round Up

So as anyone that follows me on Twitter & Instagram knows, I went veggie for October. It was partly as a “solidarity” type effort as some people at work were doing Stoptober and giving up cigarettes so the wider team gave various things up, and partly because I just wanted to know if I could. I used to be a very picky eater. When I was a kid I’d snub basically all veg and it took me moving out to really realise that I needed to start getting veg into my diet. Fast forward 9 years and here I am, in a much more open minded place and I just generally love to eat most things (apart from the odd thing, looking at you cucumber and banana).

Bundobust Pals
Bundobust Pals

I have been contemplating a monthly run down on what I’ve been cooking and where I’ve been eating for a while now and thought that a slightly more unusual month was a good place to start. So here goes. If you hadn’t already guessed, food is the reason I am poor as all hell. I have my own spreadsheet google doc which I keep update with places I want to try and where I have.
