Underground Film Club; Die Hard

Underground Film Club

What makes Christmas for you? The gifts? Bad jumpers? Family? Well for me, it’s cheese. Cheese, and Die Hard. Die Hard, closely followed by the Muppet Christmas Carol (and in recent years, Arthur Christmas), is my favourite Christmas film. Argue all you want about how it’s “not very festive”, mate he covers that guy in fairy lights and everyone is constantly humming carols. It’s a Christmas tradition for me to get into my awful Die Hard Christmas sweater, watch the film and feel all fuzzy and festive inside. Underground Film Club (The winter incarnation of Rooftop Film Club), in partnership with LG, are running in the arches under Waterloo station.

They’ve got more than just a cinema down there. Along with the screen you’ve got a miniature golf course, 2 bars (1 with full acoustic accompaniment), food from Rockadoller Dog (a pop up from the guys at Hawksmoor) and a bunch of cosy places to get comfy. LG themselves have a couple of booths showing off their new OLED technology, which is apparently the next step for HD and image quality, making those blacks even more black. They’re even running a giveaway on the LG website as part of this sponsorship, details here so go enter, where you just need to tweet your favourite Christmas movie quote along with #LGCapturingXmas for the chance of winning a 49 inch tele.

I went along with my old workmate, and new blogger, Dan to have a few drinks, eat some food (I grabbed the Onglet Bulgogi Dog), have a Christmas catch up and watch John McClane rescue the good people of the Nakatomi Plaza for the millionth time.

The cinema is running a bunch more films before Christmas, and you’ve still got some time to go and check out some films. I’d highly recommend it. The seats are comfy, there are even couches down the front, all of which have a good view. Each person is given a set of noise cancelling headphones on the way in which really helps make the experience that bit better, completely cutting out the awkward rustling of popcorn bags and the noise of passing trains.
