Bake With Maria: Chocolate Savvy

A couple of weeks ago I was invited along to Bake With Maria in Swiss Cottage (and I meant to write about this then but life has gotten in the way, it’s all been a bit hectic!). For those that don’t know, Bake With Maria was started by the lovely Maria a number of years ago. She started out by teaching people from her own kitchen how to make delicious bread, before the demand grew too strong and she had to make the move to her own specialised teaching kitchen space, the Baking Lab, which opened in November 2011. Maria and her small team now run a number of different types of class, moving away from just the bread.

My apologies for the lack of updates, or at least, the lack of food related ones. I will be running the 3rd and final part of my Scotland trip soon (it may go full George RR Martin though and be split into parts 1 & 2 of the same post), and I’ve a video in the works, yup you read that right! But in the meantime, I’ve been struggling with my new oven. It’s only temporary, which is a huge bonus, as it is ridiculously unreliable and seems to be completely unpredictable. My food posts over the next couple of months may be quite scarce and may include more food than baking. However I’m actually signing for a new flat today. I’ll be a resident of Bow Road from July 1st and can’t wait. The room is small but the flat is huge.

Easter 2015: Mull Pt.2

Glen More

It’s time for part 3 of my trip to Scotland! However, before I get started I’m going to have to start pitching to you I’m afraid. This weekend myself and a few other friends are walking the entirety of the South Downs Way. That’s all 100 Miles in 4-5 days. We are raising money for Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders  and all donations are much appreciated. Our donation page can be found here. Help us raise our target!

Chocolate Carrot Nest Cake

Chocolate Carrot Cake Nest

Easter was two weeks ago, and here’s an Easter recipe, what ya gonna do about it? Probably just be less interested, oops. But hey, who says you can’t just bookmark this in preparation for next year? This is also the continuation of my Easter Scotland posts. One of the reasons it is late is because this was actually baked on Easter itself when I was, ya know, busy. It was also a fairly time consuming bake.

Easter 2015: Mull Pt.1

Mist on Sea

Over the Easter weekend I went to visit my parents in Scotland again on the Isle of Mull. The last time I went up I got the sleeper Megabus Gold and only booked off one day from work, so I could work out how viable an option both of these were. As it turned out, they weren’t particularly. So this time around I took advantage of having 2 days already off work and tried the Caledonian Sleeper up to Glasgow instead of the Coach. As I left it pretty late I booked a seat, rather than a bed due to cost. I think next time I’ll go for a bed… the seats weren’t that great and leaving the light on overnight? Nah.
