Matcha & White Choc Chip Cookies

Matcha & White Choc Chip CookiesWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, *GHOST NOISES*. HALLOWEEN. DEAD THINGS. VAMPIRES. MURDER. HORROR. MATCHA. Wait, what? It’s everyone’s America’s favourite spooky “holiday” (my parent’s wedding anniversary), and in amongst baking pumpkin into everything possible I’ve actually (accidentally) made something that qualifies as a Halloween bake. I had some leftover Matcha from the cake I baked for my feature in Reveal Magazine and I was just trying to work out what I wanted to put it into. I always knew it was going to be something involving white chocolate, because the two flavours go together so well. I baked these Matcha & White Choc Chip Cookies once and then later that day had an email pop into my work inbox about a Halloween charity bake sale we were having this week. Read more

Triple Chocolate Shortbread Biscuits

Chocolate Shortbread Biscuits
Biscuits! Chocolatey ones! And shortbread! Oh and then more chocolate! Yes! I’m struggling to work out how to start this post, so just lots of exclamations about the general core factors of this bake will have to do. A friend of mine was holidaying a few weeks back in sunny Brighton and got robbed from her hotel room. That stinks! And in the spirit of Cake Care Package (want one, pop me an email, the site is coming along at the mo) I decided to send her something to cheer her up. I opted for double chocolate shortbread biscuit then grabbed some white chocolate for dipping (I may have ‘accidentally’ dropped a whole biscuit it…).

Chocolate Tart

Chocolate Tart

I have a bit of a backlog. I seem to open half my posts with that. I need to get my act together. I’ve been so busy (again, and I was expecting such a quiet July…) and a lot of that is blog related. I took advantage of working from home during the tube strike last week though to do some baking (gaining a couple of hours back in a day is pretty hand when you don’t have to travel). Having said that, it did take me 2.5 hours to get home from a Selfridges event I attended on the Wednesday night (more on that to come soon). The great thing about a Chocolate Tart is that while it needs plenty of chill time, the actual hands on time is fairly minimal.

Chocolate Swirl Biscuits

Hands up, who likes biscuits? Or should I say, hands up who doesn’t like biscuits? There is a time and place for cookies; and I know a great many people that love a good chewy American styled cookie. But what about the humble biscuit? I am in the camp of “I buy these often so I can have one or two, but will end up eating the whole pack in one go and then complain about being out of shape”, but I rarely actually make them, opting normal for the aforementioned cookies., like the Americanised man I claim not to be. However who can not want to make and eat something that looks like a swiss roll, but is actually a biscuit? Chocolate Swirl cookies look good, aren’t hard to make and taste even better. Kinda like shortbread but with a chocolatey extra.

Bake With Maria: Chocolate Savvy

A couple of weeks ago I was invited along to Bake With Maria in Swiss Cottage (and I meant to write about this then but life has gotten in the way, it’s all been a bit hectic!). For those that don’t know, Bake With Maria was started by the lovely Maria a number of years ago. She started out by teaching people from her own kitchen how to make delicious bread, before the demand grew too strong and she had to make the move to her own specialised teaching kitchen space, the Baking Lab, which opened in November 2011. Maria and her small team now run a number of different types of class, moving away from just the bread.
